Hollywood Costume Exhibition Goes To Los Angeles!

On view October 2, 2014 through March 2, 2015 the exhibition brings together the world’s most iconic costumes from the Golden Age of cinema to the present, including Charlie Chaplin’s waistcoat, jacket, pants and shoes from The Kid (1921), and a hat and cane from 1919 Tramp costumes.

The Victoria and Albert Museum, London and the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences present the final showing of the groundbreaking multimedia exhibition Hollywood Costume in Los Angeles.

Hollywood costume explores the central role of costume design – from the glamorous to the very subtle – as an essential tool of cinematic storytelling and brings together the world’s most iconic costumes from the Golden Age of cinema to the present.

The Academy is enhancing the V&A’s exhibition and will include more than 150 costumes.

Hollywood Costume will be accompanied by a full slate of exhibition-related programs including screenings, discussions with costume designers, and educational programs.

New Edition of "Charlot" by Philippe Soupault

“Charlot was the hero of our times, a universal hero, the man who made the world both laugh and cry.
I merely wanted to record the Little Fellow’s story […]”

Published in French for the first time by Plon in 1931, then in its definitive version in 1957, Philippe Soupault’s Charlot has been reissued this year by Gallimard, a hundred years after the creation of Chaplin’s iconic Little Fellow.

This story is neither Charlie Chaplin’s biography nor a critical analysis of his films, but a biography of the Tramp character. Inspired by Chaplin’s films, Philippe Soupault tells his story.

The book is available in French on Amazon.

2014 GCMposter

The 33rd Pordenone Silent Film Festival will take place from October 4th to October 11th, 2014.

Among many other silent films, several screenings of Chaplin films are scheduled in tribute to the centenary of his iconic Tramp. The closing show of the festival is a live performance of City Lights, with Chaplin’s own score restored by Timothy Brock and conducted by Günter Buchwald. Further tribute to Chaplin will be paid by Ichiro Kataoka, the celebrated Japanese benshi, who will perform with four Chaplin Keystone shorts - a recognition both of Chaplin’s universality and the versatility required of the traditional Japanese film ‘explainer’.

For full festival information, visit the Pordenone Silent Film Festival website.
