Moscow

The Multimedia Complex of Actual Arts in Moscow (ex House of Photography) will be hosting the famous Chaplin exhibition, Chaplin in Pictures, from 29 November 2012 until 17 February 2013. http://www.mamm-mdf.ru/en/exhibitions/chaplin-in-pictures/

London

If you want to see the original Tramp costume, it is currently on display with many other Hollywood film costumes at the Victoria and Albert Museum in London until 27 January 2013. See the V&A website for details.

Paris

Two of Chaplin’s films, A Woman of Paris and Monsieur Verdoux are part of the exhibition Paris vu par Hollywood at the Hôtel de Ville in Paris until 15 December 2012. Free entrance. http://www.paris.fr/hollywood

Madrid

If you happen to be in Madrid between now and 5 January 2013, stop by the Fundación Canal to see 20 photographs of Chaplin in the exhibition, Mitografías - Mitos en la Intimidad. The exhibition aims to provide an original, close and personal vision of some of the 20th century’s most outstanding individuals through a collection of about 250 intimate, private, personal and family images largely unseen before by the general public.

The other nine personalities in the exhibition are Pablo Picasso, Salvador Dalí, Winston Churchill, Mahatma Gandhi, Albert Einstein, Marie Curie, Camilo José Cela, Ernest Hemingway and María Callas. Free entrance. See the Fundación Canal’s website for further details.

Granada

Bern

From 26 October 2012 until 20 January 2013, the Zentrum Paul Klee in Bern, Switzerland is hosting an exhibition called, The Angels of Klee. Klee’s works are surrounded by twelve video and photography installations by artists from the 1920’s up to the present, including a sequence of the film The Kid by Charlie Chaplin. Chaplin Retrospective at the Institut Lumière in Lyon


From Saturday, November 10th to Sunday, January 6th, the Institut Lumière in Lyon, France is hosting a Charlie Chaplin retrospective, with the participation of MK2 and the Chaplin Association.

For the occasion, ten digitally restored feature films will be screened, as well as a selection of shorts and Richard Attenborough’s Chaplin.

There will also be two live orchestral film screenings of City Lights on December 8th and 9th at the Auditorium de Lyon, with the Orchestre national de Lyon playing Charlie Chaplin’s own score, conducted by Timothy Brock.

De Charlot à Chaplin - A Retrospective


On October 24th, MK2 in France began its retrospective called De Charlot à Chaplin, featuring digitally-restored versions of 10 Chaplin films (The Kid, A Woman of Paris, The Gold Rush, The Circus, City Lights, Modern Times, The Great Dictator, Monsieur Verdoux, Limelight, A King in New York).

The films were remastered from the best existing material, scanned at high-quality 2k resolution, then digitally restored and graded. Before being scanned, much of the original material had already undergone photochemical restoration at the Cineteca di Bologna.



The films can be seen every Saturday and Sunday from now until the end of the year at the newly opened high-tech MK2 cinema at the Grand Palais in Paris. Reserve now at mk2.com.

Also in France, on November 18, 2012, “The Kid” will be screened in 33 Gaumont and Pathé cinemas, including 10 in Paris and its suburbs. Tickets and information may be found here.

Chaplin Archives in Bologna


The Cinematheque of Bologna has taken nearly 8 years to accomplish the colossal task of scanning and indexing all Chaplin’s Archives - images, scripts, manuscripts, letters and thousands of documents such as daily production reports, drawings, press-clippings, exhibitor books, programmes…

Fantastic resource for historians, film academics, biographers, journalists etc. who can apply for a full or partial access to this material in the context of a specific project.

"The Gold Rush" New Release.


The Gold Rush (DVD & Blu-ray) was released by Criterion in the US.

It has both the 1925 version and the 1942 version with the music composed by Chaplin specially adapted by Timothy Brock for our Live Performances.

It also has new bonuses and a wonderful cover.
