Finally, after about 3 months of planning, the photos are finished. It truly became a family affair. I was the driving force, but we all worked hard to get the pictures just right. If it had not been for a crooked mustache on the first few shots, it would have been complete perfection!
Oh well, we did learn that mustache adhesive does not stand up to 90 degree weather and sweaty greasepaint. Next time, we will have some extra adhesive along. My husband suggested skin-bonding superglue. However, while I enjoy playing the Tramp for a day, I would not want to have a fake moustache as a permanent part of my face!
I thought is would be nice to attempt to recapture bits of Chapiln's film The Kid, starring Jackie Coogan. I was Charlie, my husband was the cop, and my son, Dax (age 5) played the part of Jackie. My best friend, Canova Henderson, took the photos and cropped them as needed. Dax did not want to ake his "Jackie" costume off and called me Charlie or Chaplin for the rest of the day!
It was fun. Our downtown park does have some truly homeless people who stay the night there. The morning of the shoot, there were about a dozen still sitting around the park and chatting. We stopped and answered several questions after one man shouted "Charlie!" across the park to us. It seemed to bring some joy to their day.
Please look at the photos and vote how you feel. There was a LOT of time, effort, and money put into getting what I thought was "perfect."
Enjoy!
