I am the daughter-in-law of a woman, (I will call her Aida V) Aida was a very goodfriend of Lita Chaplin, the first wife of Charlie Chaplin, & mother of his 2 oldest son's. I have photos of Lita & Charlie on the beach with Aida & her then husband. Charlie is without make up, & he is dressed in the oldfashioned long bathing suits that were worn in the 20's & 30's. He was very good looking. I also have several books that have a identification sheet inside the books, showing the famous picture of "the Little Tramp" & says "this book belongs to Charlie Chaplin". One is signed by the Author, Frank Waldo, as a gift to Charlie Chaplin. My husband passed away last year, but said his mother often spoke of her friendship with Lita. She accompnied Lita on a trip, by ship, to Hawaii. I have the lists of the names of the people who were on the ship, which included "Mrs Charlie Chaplin". & various other interesting letters, & news clippings. Aida was evidently called as a character witness when the Chaplins were divorced. I read in the late 1990's, of the death of Lita Chaplin, who was in a nursing home in the Los Angeles area. If we had known then that she was still alive. we would have contacted her. We had no way of knowing. If these papers or books would be of any interest to anyone in the family, I would gladly donate them to the family. Perhaps family members are related to the two son's, & they would be interested in these memoriors. Thank You Patty

That is very interesting, Sydney Chaplin is the only living son of Charlie Chaplin and Lita Grey i think, if you find any way of contacting him, he may be interested. Also i believe that Chaplin was married to Mildred Harris before Lita Grey (chaplin) ;)

It's very generous of you to try to return those items to their proper owners. Unfortunately, a lot of things related to celebrities get sold without their families' permission. Good luck getting in touch with the family. If you do, "blog" again and let us all know if the items found their way back. By the way, Charlie's wives were as follows: Mildred Harris, Lita Grey, Paulette Goddard, Oona O'Neil. He had two children with Lita--Charlie (deceased) and Sydney. He and Oona had 8 more, all still living as far as I know.
