Which one do you prefer??

I own both of the "Gold Rush" versions, the narrated and the original, and I personally prefer the narrated version. I was wondering what other Chaplin fans prefer...so my question to you is which one?? I prefer the narrated version because not only do I have his physical comedy without words but...when he narrates it I get to hear his comedic wit. I just think the narrated version enhanced the comedy by his words.

That's a tough question to answer, although, I agree with your opinion of the narrated version. It's fun to hear Chaplin narrate. (Very saddened to hear news regarding Heath Ledger today.)

The main reason I prefer the narrated version (after having seen both) is because of chaplin's amazing musical soundtrack to it! Which on the original version i have is not present. His own music enhances the film so much, and i agree the narrated humour makes it so much more interesting and much funnier.

I prefer the narrated version because the sound of his voice brings more light into the movie. (I'm with meeximus about Ledger. I was shocked when I heard it last night.)

I agree with andy36 about the music. It seems like it goes with the movie a little bit more dose'nt it? When my mom told me over the phone about Heath Ledger I thought I did'nt hear her right! I think he was only 28 years old!:(

Sure, maybe you feel more intimate, but I prefer the original. Imagery is a gift. He conveyed so superb in pantomime. I think the narrated version takes away the job of the viewer to use his/her own imagination. He knew that we had become a lazy audience!!

Can anyone help me out with this? I saw The Kid (again!!) the other night on TV - fantastic - and I noticed this time around that there were some popular songs on the soundtrack. One was The Continental which was written in 1936 for Astaire and Rogers, so i was wondering who chose the song for The Kid- did Chaplin use the song in the 1971 re-release?
