"I’m sorry, but I don’t want to take place in the lokalike competition. That’s not my business." :)
I'm Miriam Lima, from Brazil, and I want to learn more about Chaplin, watching his films and reading about him on books and on the web, but I notice that the web provides wrong informations about the Chaplin's though.
Many texts are attributed to Chaplin and I discovered the true authors of 6 texts. One of the texts attributed to Chaplin, only in brasilian sites is "Life Cycle" (the text that suggests life is better if in backward).
In american sites the text is attributed to George Carlin, Andy Rooney and George Constanza (From the Seinfeld Serie!) and never was attributed to Chaplin in English language sites, BUT, I found this site, the Urban Legends Reference Pages, that attributes the text to Sean Morey. Is the more reliable site I found.
Other text attributed to Chaplin is a brasilian version for the text "When I love myself enough" by Kim e Alison McMillen. The translation to portuguese was by Iva Sofia G. Lima.
Another text: There are many versions of the text "The Sculptor's Attitude" in English, one of them came from an English version of a brasilian site, and its attributed to Chaplin, but the story of this text is interesting: The original text was in English and its name was "A new day" by Kirk McJay. A brasilian writer, Silvia Schmidt, did a free translation of the text and named "O Milagre de um novo dia" (A new day Miracle). The Silvia's version was translated again to English... and the people believe this text belongs to Chaplin, but when I ask for the book, movie, article... anyone can say where to find the text attributed to Chaplin out of the web...
There are other texts misattributed to Chaplin and I follow researching...
By the way, many people in Brazil says the "Smile" lyrics belongs to Chaplin, but the lyrics belongs to John Turner and Geoffrey Parsons. The brasilian version was by João de Barro in 1955
I'm here because I want some help to find english texts by Chaplin. Some source out of the web with the Chaplin's texts. The only I have access is "My Autobiography". There is another reliable source?
I want the real Chaplin, not the virtual...
Thanks
PS.: English Level: Beginner :)
