I totally agree with you. Something as simple as the song..."Smile", you would be surprised just how many people, young AND old...do not know who wrote it. It's amazing. My daughter is only 15 and she is an AVID Chaplin fan. She gets so downhearted when her friends couldn't care less who he is or what he has done. They don't even want to watch his movies with her. She gets so frustrated with them. She knows his value and appreciates his worth to our society. She would like everybody to appreciate him the way she does. So she dresses up like him whenever she can. She often goes to events as 'Charlie'. It is so amazing to watch people's reaction to her. She gets lots of smiles. And...without much effort....she is giving the youngsters out there a history lesson. When a child walks by...the parents tell them, "That's Charlie Chaplin". He was a movie star. If only parents would introduce their children at an early age to the world of silent movies, of the classics, of the Golden era. How much more people would look at cinema as the art form that it is instead of what it has become.
By the way...my two year old grandson is going to know who Charlie Chaplin is. He already watches his movies!! Thus starts a "New Generation" of Chaplin fans!! ;)
