New Archival Tool: "La mémoire du réel"


After more than 30 years of consulting and visiting film and photographic archives in approximately 20 countries for his documentary films, award-winning producer-director Serge Viallet has decided to share his contacts at some 80 archival centres in a series of special publications, “La mémoire du réel”, through French authors’ rights society, La Scam.

According to Viallet, in order to protect the “treasure of memory”, one must use it, question it, enrich it and share it. In 2015, Viallet carefully analyzed our archival footage shot by Sydney Chaplin during the filming of The Great Dictator in an episode of Mystères d’archives, a series of documentary shorts focusing on various important historical events captured on film.

The Chaplin Office is delighted to be in the first edition of Vilallet’s list of noteworthy archival institutions in “La mémoire du réel” which can be consulted on La Scam’s website.

CHAPLIN: SPIRIT OF THE TRAMP - New Documentary by Carmen Chaplin


‘Chaplin: Spirit Of The Tramp’, Carmen Chaplin’s documentary, which explores her grandfather’s Romani heritage will get its world premiere at San Sebastián Film Festival on September 25th.

The feature includes exclusive interviews and many materials from the Chaplin archives, as well as film clips licensed by mk2 films. Some of the interviewees include Michael J. Chaplin, Geraldine Chaplin, Victoria Chaplin, Jane Chaplin & Christopher Chaplin. Producers include Dolores Chaplin.

The documentary will also be screened at Festival Lumière in Lyon in October.

New Exhibition in Cannes: THE KID


An exhibition on Chaplin’s first feature-length work as a director, The Kid is being held at the Palais des festivals from July 9th until August 25th.

Visitors will discover the world of this iconic film, and dive into the London of Chaplin’s childhood.

New Exhibition at Chaplin's World: CHARLIE CHAPLIN AND LOUIS DE FUNÈS, MOVEMENT AND SPEECH

After its success last year in Saint-Raphaël, France, the temporary exhibition Charlie Chaplin and Louis de Funès: Movement and Speech is currently at Chaplin’s World until September 1, 2024.

“Movement and Speech” provides a unique opportunity to trace the lives of Chaplin and De Funès and to discover the diversity of their comic talents. The exhibition includes over 300 photographs and archival materials, as well as video extracts from iconic scenes. Visitors will be greeted by wax figures of De Funès, on loan from the Musée Grévin, and of Chaplin, alongside numerous pieces of memorabilia from both artists’ lives. The interactive exhibition is fun for the whole family, and gives visitors a chance to dance along with the artists in some of their most famous scenes.

In June, there will be live music in the park at Chaplin’s World every weekend! See full programme on Chaplin’s World’s website.

CHAPLIN: new stage play in Turkey

CHAPLIN, a new licensed stage play retracing Chaplin’s life story, written in Turkish by Aksel Bonfil and produced by Mert Siliv, premiered on May 27th at Zorlu Performing Arts Center in Istanbul with plans of touring to other venues in Turkey.

Dan Kamin, who trained Robert Downey Jr. for his performance in Chaplin and Johnny Depp for a sequence in Benny and Joon, worked with actor Özgür Daniel Foster for this production.
